KPTZ listeners have come to love Fridays on the radio due, in part, to Phil Andrus’ weekly noon-4 variety show, Tossed Salad. Here are some of the highlights for the next two weeks of Salad. Join your local radio station at the Wooden Boat Festival this Friday through Sunday, September 6-8. We’ll be filling this festive weekend with live remote broadcasts, DJ meet-and-greets, a raffle, and more! Look for our yellow sign and stop by our booth while you’re perusing the more than 300 wooden vessels in the harbor. Come say hi, meet one of your local DJs, and–if you’re over 18–buy a raffle ticket for our awesome local prize, worth $600. The winner will get a year membership toEvergreen Fitness, a full service gym with group fitness, state of the art machines, a sauna and steam room, senior programs, a juice/espresso bar, and much more!

If you haven’t listened to Larry Stein’s interview/music show, Bring Your Records, it’s time to tune in.  Every Wednesday from 11am to noon Larry invites one of Jefferson County’s many fascinating community members to “bring their records.” With a handful of their current favorite tunes in tow, each guest spends the hour sharing music and conversation with KPTZ’s own Director of Programming.  Past guests have included local greats Kris Nelson, Dominic Svornich, Nancy Fitch, Rob Birman, and many more.  Tune in Wednesday, August 28th for a sit-down with musician Pete Lack, and Wendesday, September 4th for a repeat with Centrum’s Peter McCracken.

ABOUT GERMAINE: Germaine is a great contributor to our community. Germaine not only volunteers her time here at KPTZ, she also volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and is very involved with the Port Townsend Community Chorus and Ukuleles Unite.

Germaine and her husband Bernie moved to Port Townsend in 1969 to start a boat building company, Skookum Marine Construction. They have four children and six grandchildren, and recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary. She says her favorite KPTZ show is Ruby Fitch’s Beach Rubble – ” truly eclectic and very interesting.” says Germaine.

How long have you volunteered at KPTZ? I have been coming for the past year and a half. Just a couple of months from when KPTZ first aired.

Why did you decide to volunteer with KPTZ? I was talking with a friend of mine who is on the board of directors and told me they were looking for volunteers to help answer phones.

What do you like most about volunteering here? I like meeting and working with interesting people I would not otherwise meet.

I understand you play a ukulele, so you must be a lover of music. What genres of music do you like best? Classical, especially Choral music, Big Band music from the 40’s and Blue Grass.

Will we ever be able to hear you play your ukulele on air? NO!

On Monday, May 14, the Jefferson County Chamber Ambassadors joined us at KPTZ on our first anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Followed by an open house – volunteers, members and guests dropped by for a slice of birthday cake courtesy of Candace’s Cookies, tamales by Rosa Delicia Mexicana, and fiddle and accordion music by The Alternators, Peter Evasick and George Radenbaugh. Thank you one and all for your support and birthday wishes!
