We’ll stop by Port Headquarters for an update on activity around the Port, And then head for the Boatyard to visit with Amy Shaub, the owner and operator of the fishing vessel Norsel, which is a wooden purse seiner built in 1950. She lives aboard, and she’s here to tell us the boat’s story, and talk about her own history and passion for fishing on the open water.

In June, the historic fishing vessel Western Flyer will return to Port Townsend, where it underwent a multi-year restoration by the artisans from the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op. There will be a week-long schedule of student programs and community events at Point Hudson and the Northwest Maritime Center, with special tours of the boat on June7. Originally built in Tacoma in 1937, the Western Flyer is best known for carrying John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts on their 1940 Gulf of California expedition, later chronicled in The Log from the Sea of Cortez. Joining us in conversation are Pete Rust, Member-Owner of the Port Townsend Shipwright’s Co-op; the Western Flyer’s Captain Paul Tate; and Sherry Flumerfelt, Executive Director of the Western Flyer Foundation.
